2006-2007 class schedules are out at last.

The registrar's office put out the class schedule for the fall, as well as a tentative schedule for the spring. Here's what I was reminded of, as last year: going part-time in the evenings can really suck for options. First and foremost, I need to known out one of the two floating requirements of Evidence and Legal Ethics. Evidence is the most critical, as it's a pre-requisite for many other things. And so, that's almost definite for next semester. It's not offered in the evening in the spring. Evidence is 4 units. I have to take at least 8, and no more than 11. It's offered in a weird configuration to allow for an additional class, Evidence Advocacy, a 2-unit class. Tuesday from 6:30 to 9:30 and Thursday from 6:30 to 7:30. Whether I take Evidence Advocacy or not, that eats up Tuesday and Thursday evenings. What can I not take because of that?
That's it. Of those, and based solely on Emily's experience at KU, I would have liked to have been able to take Administrative Law. That means I have Monday nights and Wednesday nights to fill. Here are my Monday options:
And here are my Wednesday options:
I believe we call Wednesday slim pickings. Meanwhile, on Mondays, I'd be interested in all 4. One other possibility I will have to explore with my supervisor at work is coming in late on Mondays and Wednesdays and taking Patent Law from 9 AM to 10:20 AM, which would put me at work around 11. So, what are the possibilities? 10 units, 2 finals:
This schedule, especially with Patent Law, is kind of appealing. Monday and Wednesday nights would be free. 10 units, 1 final:
I really feel like I need a second substantive class. Maybe that's silly? 11 units, 3 finals:
The problem is, this makes Mondays short. If I was going to shorten Mondays, I think I'd rather take this for 3 units at Boalt. Finally, if I could get approval, there's be a 12-unit option:
That could be as many as 3 and as few as 1 final. I've got some things to figure out. I need to make a call to Boalt and see about the process and/or likelihood of getting in to OSD&L as a Consortium student. I need to talk to Gary (my boss) about the possibility of altering my schedule for Patent Law for the semester. And then, along the way, I just need to make some decisions. Of course, then I just have to cross my fingers that it all comes off in the end, anyway. Of course this is CalBar

Of course this is CalBar we're talking about, and not the wussy Kansas bar, but if you are thinking of taking Wills & Trusts just for bar purposes, I felt I learned everything just fine through Barbri. While it was pretty easy, I did enjoy ADR. I think it's a good class to take, as it seems arbitration and mediation are growing fields and it's good to have a basis. Though you're right, it was not terribly sustantive. Can't really help you too much otherwise, as I haven't taken many of your other choices. Bummer about Admin Law. Entirely about the Bar.

Perhaps it would be better to use my Bar-related stuff on Corporations or Secured Transactions (which doesn't actually appear to be classified as a bar elective at USF.) Post new comment |
