Over the iPhone hump

gregh  2007-07-05 20:59

Last Saturday, with all the early reviews and press, I was so close to just going and buying one. However, I resisted the urge. Now, I think I'm over the hump. I'll let others play with theirs until Apple figures out that they already had a workable cut/copy/paste paradigm on the Newton OS. Or that they really need Flash in this day and age. Or that it would be nice to have syncing via Bluetooth.

At this point, the urge to buy is pretty much gone. I survived. Whew.

Bluetooth syncing

Bluetooth would be be nice for modest address book syncs, but that's about it. Remember that the videos and photos also sync to the iPhone, and those fare much better over USB 2 compared to even Bluetooth 2.0+EDR. I did 3.2 megapixel photo uploads from my SE k790 cameraphone over Bluetooth before getting my iPhone, and those took quite a while each time. Also, syncing via cable has the advantage of recharging the iPhone, instead of draining it even more.

So far, I don't miss cut and paste since the BlackBerry's implementation of it in its email program seemed FUBAR. Syncing of notes would be a plus though. I don't miss Flash (punch the monkey!) at all so far either, even in this day and age.

Fanboy.

Don't knock it until you've tried it

bottom line: is it perfect? No
is it better than any phone or smartphone I've used? Hell yes.
