I'm sure what the world really needs at this point is yet another blogger detailing the ins and outs of bar prep. Because I am so sure of that, here I go.
Bar/Bri day number 1 was today. It was an introduction to the California Bar Exam and Bar/Bri, as well as an introduction to the Multistate Bar Exam (MBE). There wasn't much substance, and if people didn't know the material that was covered today, they hadn't done much looking into the process.
The most notable thing was the repeated ineptness of Bar/Bri. Read even a small number of bar prep blogs, and you'll note that Bar/Bri has got to be a horribly run organization, saved only by their monopoly and alleged abuses of power. Today should have been simple. Surely, they knew who they had registered at my location. However, despite having identification tags for everyone to ensure no freeloaders attended the stimulating lectures, the fine folks at Bar/Bri apparently couldn't figure out how to generate the correct number of copies of the handouts or to bring the correct number of supplementary DVDs.
There are worse stories than these, of course. They just didn't occur at my day 1. I can't help but wonder if people pass because of Bar/Bri or in spite of Bar/Bri. There is something ironic about being given a detailed breakdown of expected multistate question areas based on past questioning by an organization that seems unable to count.
I'm roughly halfway through my roughly 70 pages of reading for tomorrow.
