How hard is this to get right?

As Prince got moving on "Proud Mary," I actually wondered to myself, "How many people even know who wrote and originally sang this song?" Apparently, it doesn't take much background in such things to write a column reviewing such musical performances for the New York Times.

The Sideshow - The Fifth Down - Sports - Football - New York Times Blog:

ANOTHER GOOD POINT

Another pitiless and intelligent observer in the Comments notes that I'm 0/2 on the origins of the songs Prince did. While Tina Turner made "Proud Mary" famous, John Fogarty of Creedence Clearwater Revival wrote it. I regret the error.

Now, not only did she screw it up the first time, crediting what is clearly one of the all-time great American songs to Tina Turner, she misspelled John Fogerty's name, for crying out loud!

And Tina Turner made it famous? CCR's original made #2 on the Billboard top 100 list in 1969.

That said, I thought Prince had the best half-time show in recent memory. I normally TiVo everything up and fast-forward, but I had high hopes for him, and he delivered, even in the rain. It did keep him from moving around as much as he might normally, I think, but he still did move around.
